AMITY HOSPICE Thanksgiving Dinner Drive And
Community Garden Kitchen
Each year, the Maggie Thompson Invitational Board chooses a deserving charity to benefit from the sales of the raffle items and sponsorships. This year, the Board has selected the Amity Hospice Thanksgiving Dinner Drive as the key benefactor.
Holidays are a stressful time for all, and especially so for families of loved ones in hospice care. One special commitment of Amity Hospice is to provide complete Thanksgiving dinners to several of the hospice patients and their families to help ease some stress.
Dedicated volunteers rise early on Thanksgiving morning and convene to fry turkeys for up to 30 families. Fully prepared side dishes and desserts are purchased from a local supermarket. Volunteers aka "Tubers" then deliver the fresh, hot dinners to hospice families. Your sponsorship will help defray the cost of those dinners. Here are some pictures of last year's turkey frying and previous turkey frying events.

Our secondary beneficiary is the Community Garden Kitchen (CGK) as food insecurity is always an issue and worsened in the pandemic. According to their website: Not knowing when you will have your next meal is an experience faced at least once a year by over 48,000 children in Collin County. CGK provides free meals in the setting of a local diner where the patrons can "dine with dignity." It also provides working experience for volunteer cooks, servers, and hostesses who can parlay that experience into paying employment.
This year, we have formally added La Tiendita as our tertiary beneficiary. La Tiendita, run by Jason Hernadez, is a nonprofit grocery store serving East McKinney. But it is more than just a grocery story serving an underserved population. It is morphing into a cultural center and will soon host classes in life skills, cooking, finance and budget planning, etc. It is a pleasure to be associated with such a wonderful cause.
And finally, we are committed to offering Random Acts of Kindness. We will provide up to ten smaller donations to deserving charities when the opportunities present themselves.
The Maggie Thompson Invitational Board greatly appreciates your support for the Amity Hospice Thanksgiving Dinner Drive and other charities. It is through your support that allows our tournament to thrive and charities to benefit.
2024 Charitable Recipients
2024 Additional Recipients
Our 2024 tournament was so successful, we were able to make large contributions to two other worthy beneficiaries. The first was a tuition payment for Joshua Guiterez. Joshua is a junior at Sul Ross State University and is from Playa del Carmen, Mexico. He is a midfielder on the Lobos soccer team. Secondly, Grace Bridge Food Bank donated all of the turkeys for all of our hospice families. We returned the favor by donating $1,000 to this wonderful cause whose purpose is to focus on serving the “whole-person” by striving to meet their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
